Feather Your Nest This Spring

Yankee Doodle went to town
A-riding on a pony
Stuck a feather in his hat
And called it Macaroni (at right).

Whether your personal style is conservative or edgy, adding a touch of feathers, can add some personality and polish to your wardrobe.

Menswear designer, Antonio Azzuolo, used feathers as boutonnieres to showcase his gorgeous Spring/Summer 2009 Collection (above).

Surface Magazine, had a brilliant story—Sons of Man (above), styled with feathers, in their 2007 Annual Men’s Issue. Photography by Gray Scott, Styling Jennifer Hitzges, Bowler hat by Rod Keenan.

French fashion designer, Alexis Mabille, used trimmed peacock feathers as a pocket square (above) with his version of a men’s glen plaid suit—from his Spring/Summer 2009 Collection.

Mr. Peacock loves the macabre beauty of Julia Deville’s handcrafted jewellery and taxidermy. This one-of-a-kind brooch (above), from a few years ago, uses an entire bird wing. This piece would look stunning on a black or midnight blue tuxedo jacket.

You can purchase a variety of inexpensive feathers at sewing and craft stores.

This eBay seller has an amazing collection of vintage millinery feathers (see a few items below) from the early 1900's that would make fantastic menswear adornments for hats, lapels, or as "pocket squares."

Above left to right: Mr. Peacock would use these chartruese guinea feathers as a pocket square this Spring; the smaller feathers would look nice pinned to a hat.

Above: This Austrian red pheasant feather would add a splash of color to any outfit.

Above: These brown and persimmon colored feathers, from Paris, would be very elegant pinned to your lapel. Mr. Peacock loves the vintage label too!

Mr. Peacock frequently uses feathers as "pocket squares" (above)—just to add a touch of color and texture to my outfit. And of course, you can always pin a feather to your favorite hat, like Yankee Doodle Dandy, to compliment what you’re wearing.

Justin Timberlake wore a feather as a necklace, at the last fashion show for his menswear label, William Rast.

Whatever your taste—adding a touch of feathers will add some polish to your gentleman attire.
